The Guru Leather Story

The art of
the shift.

From the runways of Australian fashion to the workshop bench, one rule never changed: do it once, and do it flawlessly.

1992 – 2010

From runway to road.

In 1992, Frank's world was the demanding, high-stakes arena of Australian fashion. For more than 14 years he worked as a master leather clothing manufacturer and designer, shaping premium hides that graced runways and stocked the shelves of iconic labels including George Gross, Harry Who and Peter Shearer. In that world there was no room for error. A fraction of a millimetre was the difference between a perfect drape and a ruined garment.

Passions evolve. In 2010, Frank looked at the automotive world and saw a parallel canvas. The same meticulous tailoring, pattern-making and material knowledge that shaped high fashion could revolutionise motor trimming closer to home. Guru Leather was born.

The Philosophy

A tailored interior.

Frank traded the runway for the workshop, but he never left haute couture behind, he simply applied it to steel and horsepower. Guru Leather treats a vehicle not as a machine, but as a tailored suit. The workshop runs on an old-world philosophy: do it once, and do it flawlessly.

Whether it's a vintage classic or a modern upgrade, every project is handled with over three decades of leather-working mastery behind it.

Mastery In The Details

Where it shows the most.

The true hallmark of a master craftsman is found in the places most people overlook. For Guru Leather, that signature is the steering wheel.

While others rely on generic slip-on covers, Frank strips every wheel back to its bare core. Premium, automotive-grade hides are skived to a precise thickness, moulded exactly to the wheel's contours, and hand-stitched in a showcase of pure human skill. It's an art you can feel every single time you drive.

Guru Leather doesn't just repair cars. It restores the tactile joy of driving.

Today

Continuing the craft.

After decades of craftsmanship and dedication to the trade, Frank has made the decision to scale back the business as he moves toward the next chapter of life. Following an injury two years ago, he's choosing to focus on the work he enjoys most: steering wheels, gear knobs, console lids and other smaller interior trim components.

While Frank is stepping away from full leather interiors and roof linings, his commitment to quality, attention to detail and exceptional workmanship remains exactly what it has always been. This transition lets him keep sharing his expertise with customers while finding a healthier balance as he gradually approaches retirement, and every project that comes through the door still gets the same care and craftsmanship his reputation was built on.

"Do it once, and do it flawlessly."
